If you've phoned through a telegram to the Nelson Post Office, chances are that the girls you spoke to were June Ryder and Julie Rush. June (left) is 18 and is single. She was born in Motueka but has lived in Nelson most of her life. She is a qualified telegraphist and for fun marches with the Glengyle senior marching team. Julie, who was married 15 months ago, is to have her first baby in July (congrats, Julie). Originally she came from Hamilton, but has lived in Nelson now 10 years, five of them with the Post Office. Her hobbies are hubby, cooking and reading.

Among the bookshelves at Whitcombe and Tombs we came upon Shona Goodyer (shop assistant) and Evelyn Beets (typist-clerk). Shona, at left, is 15 and has been with the firm nine months, She was educated at Nelson College for Girls and is a keen swimmer. Evelyn, 21, is engaged to be married, and has been with the firm two years. She comes from Richmond and was educated at Waimea College. Her interests include swimming, St. John Ambulance work, youth work at All Saints' Church, music and sewing.

Taking dents out of crunched-up vehicles is the occupation of Peter Simson, who runs his own panel-beating shop in Fiddle Lane. Peter came to Nelson from Blenheim 18 years ago. His interests include swimming, whitebaiting and all sports.

A lad with an artistic bent is Clive Hall, a 17-year-old display artist with Hays-Wright Stephenson in Nelson, Clive was educated at Nelson College and has been in his job about a year. His hobbies include painting and making model aircraft.

Jim Reeves, 19, has been driving for Transport Nelson for four or five months since arriving from Greymouth. He was educated at Motueka High School, then at Greymouth. His hobbies include golf, shooting and Rugby.
