Youth Hostel for Nelson

The world-wide youth hostel movement is now firmly established in Nelson. The hostel, formerly a home in Sussex Street, in the heart of the city, was opened early in December, And what a fantastic success the venture has proved. The hostel has been "chocker" throughout the holiday season and, despite the limited staying time, many have had to be turned away because of the tremendous demand. The hostel is quite unpretentious but according to one hosteller is much better than some European hostels in that the sleeping accommodation is more spacious. Only members of the international Youth Hostel Association are permitted to stay in a hostel. Each has a membership card which is stamped at each hostel as a guarantee that behavior of the holder has been satisfactory. A wonderful asset to the city.
