Army at the Airport

Completing exercises in the Blenheim district, 500 men of the Canterbury-Nelson-Marlborough-West Coast Battalion, R.N.Z.I.R., camped at Nelson airport in preparation for the ceremony of laying up the colours of the old Nelson-Marl-borough-West Coast Regiment. Above is a view of the camp under canvas. Left: Spud detail, and on the end of the knives are Alex Buchanan (Mount Cook), Howard Barnes (Arthur's Pass), Frank Gibbs (Hokitika) and Neville Greaney (Dunedin). Below left: Nelson district men included Dave Kemp, Colin Tasker, Daye Fairbairn (back), Peter Rans - by (Riwaka) and Sgt Ray Pawson. Below: No more horrible needles for their "shots", just a pneumatic needle.
