Nearly six hours were spent righting this mobile crane of the Waimea Welding Company after it came to grief while negotiating a very steep slippery drive to a new house being built off the main road, Tahuna. Fortunately the vehicle suffered only minor damage, but it took a bulldozer and a crane to right it.

To further the work of the society among the sick and needy of all denominations in Nelson, the St.Vincent De Paul Society has opened an "Opportunity Shop" in Gloucester Street. Clothing for children and for adults and all kinds of other articles are on sale for absurdly low prices. Similar shops are operating in many other centres throughout New Zealand.

The stern decks of the modern Japanese log ship Kamafuji Maru also serves as a golf driving tee and a base for the crew's favourite pastime, fishing.
