Fire at Fruit Juice Factory

A view of the building and fire shortly after the brigade arrived. They made an excellent save.

The swirling dense smoke made sight and breathing difficult.

A fire which began in the lining of a wall in one of the new buildings being erected for the New Zealand Apple and Pear Board's juice factory, Stoke, caused damage likely to exceed $15,000. Thick black smoke pouring from the roof hampered firemen who attacked the fire through the roof (below). The damaged area formed part of the huge room to be used for the refrigerated storage of concentrated fruit juices. The building is to be opened in September.
