Motueka Talent Quest

The wealth of talent that abounds in New Zealand and the Nelson-Motueka district during the harvest season was very apparent at the talent quest organised by the Motueka Jaycees recently. Twenty groups or individuals competed for good prizes before a packed theatre. Popular winner was well-known Nelson singer, Joe Paul (above), seen receiving his award from compere Sam Taylor at top right. Second was Rich Rata (below, a boy with a beautiful voice, and third was Motueka singer, Veronica Horgan (centre right). Winners of the junior section were the Friend youngsters of Richmond, Feter, Melodie (right), Jayne and Susan (far right). Another great little junior group comprised Lorraine, Wendy and Janene Matthews, of Motueka (below right).

"Big John" Watson stands only knee-high to a grasshopper, but he has a fine voice.

As well as squeezing, Mrs Joan Stone also had to puff at the same time on her mouth organ.

Another nice group: J.Pagmore, B.Pownall and L.Tuiquer-que.

Isaac Wawa-tai, Howard Fowler (he was recalled by popular demand), Raewyn Jenkins (junior division), and Selwyn Pataha.

Billed originally as "The Two of Us", this group on stage turned out to be "The Three of Us".
