Fashion Went To Their Heads

Just what can be achieved in the way of head-turning hair styling was dramatically demonstrated by Australian champion hair stylist Alwyn Juilfs in Nelson last month. Mr Juilfs was in New Zealand helping to introduce a new cold wave permanent and, with the aid of models he showed a hall full of hairdressers some of his creations. His most "way out" styling was undoubtedly that displayed on model Faye Botham (top left and above). After doing a Phyllis Diller on Faye's hair (above), he shaped it, sprayed it with a silver lacquer and finally surmounted the hair with a chain-type hair piece. A similar operation was performed on Biddy Galway (left). At far left, Biddy displays the final effect and at left Mr Juilfs pins the hair piece in place.

Not all models received the "way out" treatment, however. Janice Laing (Stoke), at left, has long, thick hair. She finished with a ringlet hair-do. Marlene Hammond, however, was chosen to display this unusual style (above). A hair piece was used on Marlene. Shirley Green, of Tahuna, went all high hat after her hair had been styled (below left). Somewhere in that pinnacle of hair there's a roll, or something. The soft, natural look, was shown off to effect on Val Griffith (below centre) and Ruth Whitehead (below right).
