Progress with new Sewer

Work is proceeding rapidly and without any undue hitches on the laying of the submarine outfall for the new Nelson sewerage scheme. When we visited the site at Wakapuaka recently, the staff of the outfall contractor, Brian Kidson, was preparing the outlet ports on each side of the first 10 pipes to be pushed out into the sea.

The pipes, at left, will be joined and pre-stressed and laid in the channel in the foreground and will be taken out to sea. The main pipeline to Nelson will then be laid under the road at right.
