Everyone knows that when explosive material is set off it goes "bang", or "whoompf", have your pick. To ensure that there are no premature "bangs" in the Nelson district, a team of explosives experts attached to the Department of Labour visited Nelson recently to conduct a course on the safe handling of explosive material. We attended some of the practical demonstrations for these pics. above, explosive cord is used to cut this reinforced concrete pipe. It is fired and the effect is observed.
