From Rags to Riches

×

Nelson College kitchen and dining room staff must have felt a little like Cinderella as she stepped out of her kitchen into the ballroom of the castle when they began work in the new kitchen and dining-room block at the college. In place of the old gymnasium, with its small windows, that has served the college as a sort-of permanent temporary kitchen and dining-room for 20 years, they now have a big, airy building with a panoramic view. The new building can cater for as many as 300 diners and cost, with fittings and equipment, about $100,000. Heaven indeed. When we took the picture above, the boarders were sitting down to dinner. An unusual feature of this meal was that the head of each table did the carving.
