During the week Noel Parker, a member of the city council reserves department staff, mows lawns. Then comes the weekend and he's got a bit of time to - mow his lawns. Noel has been with the department nearly seven years and, except for 10 years when he served with the Navy, he's lived all his life in Nelson. He's married with one child and his major relaxation is "pottering".

In the last 10 years, Henry Thorn has prepared and painted a lot of cars. That's his job - a car painter with De Luxe Auto Painters. Henry is married, with three children, He's got a little boat and enjoys his sea fishing and follows all sport.

We called in to the Maitai Grocery, Nile Street, recently, and there put the faces of Gladys Waldron and Irene Stafford, on film. Mrs Waldron is a partner (with her husband) in the business, and they've run it for two years. Originally (16 years back) they came to Nelson from England, They have two sons, both living in Nelson. Hobbies: Putting her feet up after seven days' work. Irene is 17, and has worked at the store for about 18 months. She attended Nelson College for Girls and in her spare time sews, plays piano and guitar and goes swimming.

Pig and deer shooting and fishing are the main leisure-time pursuits of Harold Wilton, a storeman with Odlins. Harry's been with the firm for 15 years, coming to Kelson from the Wairarapa. He's married, with two children.

Jean Robertson has a job that many girls would give their false eyelashes for. She's a van driver for Motor Specialties. She is 19 years old, is single, and has had her job for six months. Jean has lived in Nelson all her life and is a busy girl in her spare time. She goes boating, fishing, swimming, and plays piano.
