Youth Hostel Activities

When a party of Youth Hostel members climbed Mount Arowhana recently, they witnessed the unusual Spectre of the Brocken, a phenomenon created by the sunlight casting a climber's shadow on a layer of mist below, resulting in the phantom figure pictured

Another recent excursion was to the Youth Hostel at Aniwaniwa, approximately 100 miles from Gisborne on the Waikaremoana Road, where a working bee on the building was held. Members of the party, relaxing in the sun in front of the hostel are, from left, sitting! Murray Elsmore, Jim Siriett, Diane Copper, Dawn Norgrove, Betty Norgrove, Peter Corn, John Houns-low, and Arthur Norgrove, In front is Don McKee, and at back are Reece Pearson and Des Steel.
