Well on the way to fielding his own cricket team is Mr W. F. Hayes, a former Gisborne boy, now living at Porirua East. The son of Mr W. P. Hayes senior, of Valley Road, he became the father of his tenth son last month. The Hayes family are from left: Mr Hayes, Mrs Hayes, holding Stephen (one month), Michael (16 years), Dennis and Brian (14 year old twins), Peter (12 years), John (9 years), Noel (7 years), Kevin (5 years), Gerard (3 years), and Paul (1 year).

Eight 60ft broad flange beams, weighing 1501b to the foot, were recently transported up the Coast from Gisborne for the Waiapu County Council's new Mangawhiriki bridge in the Tapuwaeroa Valley, near Ruatoria. The girders, which were supplied by the Gisborne branch of Fletcher Steel and Engineering Co. Ltd, were some of the largest seen in the district.
