Skene Trophy Polo

Eight polo teams, containing some of the top players in the country, competed in the first Skene Trophy tournament at the Poverty Bay Polo Club's grounds at Bush-mere recently. The trophy was won by the Auckland team, which had an easy victory over Rangitikei in the final, by seven goals to three.

The Kirkpatrick Cup, which was donated by Mr A. Kirk-patrick of Gisborne, for competition between the teams which were eliminated in the first round of the Skene tournament, was won by the Southern team from Hawkes Bay when it defeated Wanstead by eight goals to three.

The large crowds which attended the three-day tournament seem to indicate that polo is becoming an increasingly popular sport with the people of Gisborne.
