Singer Trophy Race
The annual Singer Trophy race this year drew a field of 16, including three girls, and was won, on handicap, by Roger Jenkins, The race, which requires entrants to be fully clothed, owes its genesis to a war-time incident, when Dr. Singer's son, a Navy man, owed his life to his ability to swim in difficult conditions while clothed. The race requires competitors to swim four lengths of 100 yards, each by a different method, with handicaps for the final length.
