Hikuwai Bridges Opened

A major step forward in East Coast communications was reached on a Saturday last month, when the four new bridges over the Hikuwai Stream, 10 miles north of Tolaga Bay, were officially opened by the Minister of Works, Mr W. S. Goosman. The ribbon symbolising the opening was cut by Mrs Esme Tombleson, Member for the District.

There was a large attendance at the ceremony, which was organised by the Waiapu County Council, and it was unfortunate that rain marred to some extent the success of the occasion. But at least (as one speaker remarked) the Minister did not have to put up with the dust nuisance.
