Top Surfers' Demonstration
The Waikanae Six-Man Rescue and Resuscitation team which won the blue riband of national surf life-saving, the Nelson Shield, at the national championships in Wellington, demonstrated their skill on a recent Sunday afternoon at Waikanae Beach.
Pictured on this page is their demonstration of a rescue as it would actually happen, without all the military precision required for a competitive rescue.
The team's trainer, Mr Ivan Wilson, who has since transferred to Nelson, gave a running commentary of events.
Beltman, Barry McLean, sprints down the beach and is followed by the rest of the team with the reel
