Exhibition Rugby Match
Over 5000 people thronged Rugby Park on St. Patrick's Day to see the Marist Rugby Club's benefit match in which twenty All Blacks were playing. Although the light rain during the week had softened the ground slightly, Saturday's clear sky and bright sunshine made conditions perfect.
Within minutes of the teams taking the field, R. H. Brown's side had scored the first of the 96 points which were on the scoreboard at the close of the game.
Rugby Park has never seen such a game....with international players lightheartedly throwing the ball about in dazzling movements that were responsible for the fantastic scoring average of over a point a minute.
R. H. Brown's star-studded team proved to be the stronger and fitter side of the two, but R. A. White's fifteen were not disgraced in their defeat by 62 points to 34, in this delightful game of sparkling rugby at its best.
