School facilities in Gisborne district have shown an amazing development over the past five or six years. Not only have a great many new schools been built, but some of the older ones have been renewed or added to. This is the new school at Makauri.

Lots of new houses have been built too, but occasionally one of the city's older dwellings is given a new lease of life by a shift to the country...like this one leaving Ballance Street to be resided at Waerenga-a-hika.
