H.M.S. Trump in Port

Recent visitor to the port of Gisborne was the Royal Navy submarine, HMS Trump. After waiting for the rising tide in a strong southerly off the breakwater, Trump made a spectacular entrance into the port to be greeted by a small crowd of onlookers.

Commissioned in June 1944, HMS Trump sank more than 10,000 tons of shipping off Malaya during the last war, and has since been with the Home and Mediterranean Fleets. Prior to her arrival in Gisborne she has been engaged in exercises with the Royal Australian and New Zealand navies.
