There was much ado in Kaiti basin the other day when this boat was put back into the drink for the summer. The cracks in the hull were wide open, and only desperate ef-fort kept it afloat.

The scow Hoki was a recent visitor to Gisborne, A well-known old ship round N.Z, waters, she served the U.A. navy in the Pacific during the war, carting ice-cream round the islands. Her Kiwi cook once ordered half a ton of coke for the stove, got cordial extract instead from the Yank supply depot.

Dry spring notwithstanding, this slug found in Muir Street was a proper whopper...nearly 4 inches long when fully extended.
