Hobbies Exhibition

Hobbies ranging from the building of helicopters to collecting match-box covers, from the construction of' elaborate models of aeroplanes and ships to astronomical apparatus of immense complexity, were gathered together for public display at the recent Hobbies Exhibition organised by the Public Relations Office of Greater Gisborne Inc. The exhibition provided the many thousands of visitors who attended an insight into the enthusiasm and versatility of local hobbyists. It was also instrumental in augmenting the funds of Greater Gisborne.

No doubt many a visitor to the show had an interest kindled in a particular hobby as a result of seeing examples on show. One direct result is the possibility that a branch may be formed here of the Royal Astronomical Society of New Zealand. The display by local astronomers, especially Mr A. N. Brunton's electrically-driven models of the earth and moon in relation to the aun was particularly interesting.
