Lonnie Donegan in Gisborne

Lonnie Donegan, Britain's "King of Skiffle Music", recently paid a weekend visit to Gisborne. Lonnie, who would be known best for his million-selling records "My Old Man's a Dustman" and "Does Your Chewing Gum Lose its Flavour etc", is supposedly one of the world's ten best-dressed men. In Gisborne for the rinal New Zealand performances of "Putting on the Donegan", Lonnie departed immediately for the U.S.A. and England where he is to appear in the pantomime "Cinderella".

Although his audiences were not outstanding, Lonnie enjoyed his stay, and had made many firm friends among the people of Sisborne by the time of his departure.
