The Biggest Boiler Ever Built

(In New Zealand)

Gisborne and its freezing works got a lot of free advertising as the biggest boiler ever built in New Zealand made its ponderous way from Christchurch to Lyttelton (by rail) to Wellington (by sea), and to Gisborne (a combined rail and road effort, one tunnel being too narrow for the big fellow to squeeze through).

A railways crane came along to unload the 28-ton monster, which was 16ft long and 12ft high.
