When the "Photo News" photographer called at the Helena Rubenstein beauty classes in the War Memorial hall, the shy young things learning how to gild the lily hid their charms behind their hands. At left, Miss Gwenda Jones, Helena Rubenstein's beauty councillor from Australia who conducted the classes.

Mr E. T. Murphy, 157 Carnarvon St. has a novel way of growing strawberries... in a barrel. He drilled holes around the barrel, filled it with earth, and planted about 75 plants, which are now well laden with delicious berries.

In recent weeks residents of upper Stanley Road have become accustomed to the continuous throb of a pump, pumping water, and eels, from an underground stream. The stream was struck by contractors laying a new pipeline from the High School swimming baths. Robert Walker and David McDonald brought in the sample eel pictured.
