Rep Rugby Finale

In the final representative rugby fixture of the season Poverty Bay were soundly defeated by the visiting Waikato team by 37 points to three. Fielding a powerful team, with All Black stars Dick Conway and Don and Ian Clarke in their ranks, the visitors maintained a steady pressure to bring the half time score to 11-3. As the second spell progressed, the fit Waikato team slowly exhausted their opposition, with their bustling forward tactics and fast back line taking advantage of every opportunity. Loose forwards Dick Conway and Frank O'Kane effectively ruined many of the Bay's back line movements giving five-eighths, Gina Rodgers, a terrific battering. Don Clarke attracted much attention and was not disappointing with his personal tally af 14 points.
