Some people have all the luck. Here are Mr and Mrs T. H. Berry forcing themselves to accept a cheque for £2000 from Mr J. K. Clark, manager of the Commercial Bank. The cheque represented second prize in an overseas lottery.

A remarkable record has been established on the Awapuni Golf Club by Mrs G. J. O. Booth, of Ngatapa. In 1940, as a young golfer fresh from England, she won the P. B. Women's Open Tournament and the P. B. Club Women's Championship. This year, 21 years on, she completed the double again. In the interval between, she has won both titles on a number of occasions, but her feat in annexing both titles twenty-one years apart must rank as something special in the annals of New Zealand golf.

Gisborne bowling circles have suffered a grievous blow recently by departures from the district....two club presidents and the umpires' president were farewelled last Saturday at a function at the Kahutia Club. From left: Mr Vic Fry, the umpires' president, and Mrs Fry, who are leaving to live in Te Puke; Mrs H. R. Farrell, president of the Riverside Women's Club, and Mr Farrell, who is president of the Kahutia Club. They are leaving on transfer to Wanganui.
