Riverside Opening
The Riverside Women's Bowling Club opened its 1961-1962 season to good prospects, although the weather on the day was cold and blustery. With a growing membership, and greens and buildings in tip-top order, the club is assured of a successful season.
A general view of the opening ceremony.
While members shiver in the gale, the Mayoress, Mrs Barker, holding a presentation bouquet, declares the season open. With her are the club president, Mrs H. Farrell (who has since left the district), and secretary, Mrs Russell Wilcox.

This Is a "Spider"
Novelty opening for the women's bowling season at Riverside was called a "Spider". This requires all players to line up round the green and at a given signal send in one bowl to the centre of the green, where lies "kitty". Nearest bowl to kitty wins a prize.
