Mr M. Searancke, of Gisborne Jaycee, and national vice-president for 1961, who has been elected the first Maori president of New Zealand Jaycee by popular vote at the National Convention held at Rotorua. In the final ballot, under the preferential voting method, Mr Searancke received. 185 votes, the other two candidates receiving 117 and 57 respectively.

Obituary. The death took place last week, in his 93rd year, of one of Gisborne's most widely-known residents, Mr Joseph John ("Joe") Martin, for many long years mine host at the Royal Hotel. He established a record by holding the licence for over 50 years. He was a P.B, and Auckland representative footballer, a national bowls title holder, and a keen follower of the turf,
