Parade In The Rain

On a recent Friday evening, Gisborne saw one of the best little parades to grace the main street for a long time. It was held to advertise the annual gala of the Heni Materoa Home. Unfortunately, the weather was wet, but this did not deter those taking part, or the "Photo News" cameraman, who secured these unusual-looking shots by shooting with flash through the raindrops.

As the flashlight was reflected back from raindrops close to the camera, each was recorded on film in the shape of the camera's pentagonal aperture. The effect is as if the parade was moving through a maze of magic lanterns.
