Shakespeare by Schoolgirls
William Shakespeare was a hit playwright in his day, but it takes a very special treatment to make his plays spring to life so long after the plots were conceived and clothed in words which, for all their beauty and wit, now seem to belong to another world. More honour, then to the members of the Gisborne Girls High School Drama Club, who presented "Midsummer Night's Dream" so entertainingly in the school's new assembly hall recently.
Lysander and Hermia (Ngaire Saunders and Susanna Spence)...... "The course of true love never did run smooth".
Titania, Queen of the Fairies (Henriette Metzers) makes love to Bottom (Diane Cooper).... "I kiss thy fair large ears, my gentle joy".
Philostrate (Tessa Stephens) and Egeus (Geraldine Hankey) consult Theseus the Duke (Cynthia Nunns) and Hippolyta (Marilyn Arthur).... "A play there is, my lord".

The play was produced by Mrs F. M. Wright, with Gaynor Saunders as assistant producer. Stage manager was Mr J. B. Porter. The costumes were designed and made by Miss M. Diggle, and make-up and properties were by Mrs B. Coates. A choir was trained by Miss Stafford-Murphy.
