A night alarm recently had the Fire Brigade arriving at the gas-works to fight a fire before men in the works office on the scene even knew there was a fire! An engine failure resulted in a fire starting high up in the big brick building. Picture at left shows smoke and fireman's helmet in high opening after flames had been doused.

A lion cub belonging to one of the circus acts at the Show caused much interest in Gisborne. The owner offers it to a young lady to hold.

The cub does what any other cat delights in doing. He enjoys rubbing against the young lady's legs.
