Goalie's Bad Day

Although Manawatu looked to be the better team on the day, they failed to beat Poverty Bay in their challenge for the Wattle Cup, after leading 2 to nil at half time. Two penalties to Poverty Bay early in the second half equalised the score, Crawshaw netted another, and a third came in by accident off a Manawatu player. It wasn't a good day for the Manawatu goalie (in action above, left). He stopped Mulrooney's penalty (above, right), but Mulrooney followed up fast and netted the rebound. He had no show with P. Bonica's penalty (below, left), nor with Crawshaw's goal (below, right).

After Bonica had come through fast, he was robbed by the Manawatu centre-half, and in the ensuing excitement, in which the Manawatu goalie was involved, the ball came off the Manawatu player and rolled into the net (below, left). To complete the Manawatu goalie's bad day, he had to be attended to by St. John Ambulance personnel (below, right).
