Gala Fun

A wheelbarrow derby was part of the fun at the annual Elgin School gala held recently. The teams were mixed...the man had to push the woman most of the way, but the woman had to take the handles for the last 30yds.

First, second, and third to come home are pictured above. Left to right they are Mrs Barber and Ralph Whitfield, who were easy winners; Mrs Hindrup and Bill Carrington; and Mrs Clark and Max Cotter.

Mrs Barber also won a prize for cooking.

A presentation was made to Mr Foster in recognition of his many services to the school.

Mr Norm Fraser, the School Committee chairman, speaking at the official opening. Also present are Mr and Mrs Barker, Mayor and Mayoress; Mr and Mrs Foster; Mr Kennedy (acting headmaster) and Mrs Kennedy.

Mr Foster, whose activities used to include giving the children rides on the wagon, which is no longer permissible.
