Lessons for Anglers

The compleat angler should have many attributes. As an expert said recently, these should include a flexible nose for turning up at worm fishermen; and ears bent from listening to other angler's arguments, and perforated by hooks from casting in cross winds. But his first and most important attribute should be an ability to find fish.

Be that as it may, such attributes would be useless if he was not able to cast a fly where he wants it, so when Mr Con Voss, of Rotorua, paid Gisborne a visit last month, anglers flocked to hear him talk and watch him demonstrate. For Mr Voss is a world authority on fishing tackle and casting. On the banks of the Waimata, he showed how effortless and accurate fly-casting can be when you know how. Then he gave individual enthusiasts his advice on their gear and technique.
