British Submarine's Visit

The British submarine H. M. S. Anchorite paid Gisborne a visit last month, arriving on a fine spring morning to be greeted by a large crowd at the wharf. One of the Royal Navy's A streamlined class of submarine, with a surface displacement of 1400 tons, she created considerable interest during her three-day visit here. The ship could not be thrown open to the public but small groups were shown over.

Conducted groups were shown over the Anchorite during the weekend she was berthed at No.2 wharf. In picture at left, a party of young ladies prepares to inspect the craft.
