Best exponent of Judo so far seen in Gisborne was a crewman off the Japanese fishing vessel, Showa Maru II., named Kapusuke Sato. A second dan, or teacher, he is a much higher-graded judoka than members of local clubs and although conversation with him was not possible, the Japanese names used for the various holds were employed to enable the visitor to demonstrate finer points of the game. Gisborne Club members learnt much from his visit. He is seen here putting a hold on a member, and above, at the conclusion of the demonstration, with club members.

Lockie Richards, son of Mr and Mrs J. E. Richards, of Gisborne, who has been in England now for nearly 2½ years, is seen here doing a clear round at one of the British shows. A British Horse Society instructor, Lockie has been giving tuition at one of the largest schools in the country.
