A gala occasion recently at the Matawai School was the opening of the newly-completed swimming baths, when children, parents and residents of the district gathered round in bright and sunny weather to see "the first big splash".

Hundreds of darts players competed for the open district championship in a series of exciting contests in the 2nd NZEF rooms, and the winner proved to be the youngest of them all-15-year-old Wallace Scott.
