How's this for a "whopper"? It is a poplar log from a tree cut down in Steed Avenue, up past the Turanganui Golf Links, and it measured 7ft 2in in diameter, which is surely one of the biggest poplars ever to be seen in this district. Mr A. N. Richardson stands alongside here as the trimmed log is prepared for sawing at his mills.

The big 6ft circular saws starting the job of cutting up the big fellow.

All the kiddles who brought "guys" to the Mangapapa reserve last Thursday won a free ride on the merry-go-round, and the "guys" went along too. This one looks as though he couldn't care less.
