Bridge Girders Crash

After being successfully launched across the 170ft gap over Papa Creek, the steel girders of the new bridge on the Ruakituri road suddenly collapsed, and plunged 70ft into the creek. The accident put four men into hospital. One, Mr M. Parker, was thrown down the cliff face into the river. Another, who was on the girder at the time, escaped with bruises.
