The Show

Although October's unpleasant weather did its best to mar the show, the P. B. Agricultural and Pastoral Association's annual two-day fixture was never seriously affected by the occasional showers which fell, and the event remained an outstanding success for big crowds from both town and country. Fine displays of stock, culminating in the impressive grand parade, a wide variety of competitive events, a most interesting and comprehensive trades display, and the garish attraction of an extensive "sideshow alley" combined to provide interest, excitement and pleasure for all who were present. The large attendance of the public demonstrated once again the enduring popularity of this annual event.

Three pictures taken during the International Jump typify the drama of this exacting show-ring event. At left, Sunbeam Sapphire, with Peter Murphy up, clears the second-last jump in fine style. Centre, Mr Murphy holds his seat admirably as his mount balks at the last obstacle and comes to a sudden stop. At right, nothing daunted, the pair try again, and this time the rails are cleared splendidly.
