Initial arrangements are now being made by B. P.-Shell and Todd Petroleum Development, Ltd. for a deep well of more than 10,000 feet in the Mangaone district, north-west of Nuhaka. The bore will be about a mile from the site of the unsuccessful 1930 bore which was drilled down to 3910ft. This picture shows a model on display at Adairs Ltd. recently which shows an oil drilling rig against a background of typical East Coast terrain, both above and below ground level. It should become a familiar sight in reality within the next year or two.
