Girls Climb Honokawa

Mount Honokawa (4360ft), in the Ruatoria district, has been climbed several times since Mr B. C. Watkins led the first party to the summit in 1912, but as far as can be established, no women had climbed it until early this month, when a mixed party from the Gisborne Youth Hostel Association reached the top.

The two girls in the party were Noeline McCool and Ann Matthewson. They made the rough and at times difficult ascent in good shape.

The party camped near the base of the mountain on the Saturday night, completing the ascent next day.
