"When the Winds Blow.."

Good weather for the opening day of summer sports is something of a gamble. When Riverside bowlers gathered at their greens in Disraeli Street on the Saturday afternoon of October 3, the weather was at least fair. But as the official opening hour of 2.30 p.m. approached, thunderclaps sounded from a darkening sky, and a gale sprang up from the south, which soon drove everybody indoors. So the season started indoors, with the hammering of hail on the roof making things difficult for the speakers.
