Headmaster Farewelled

Mr J. Cowan, headmaster of Gisborne Central School for the past 5½ years, left during the school holidays on transfer to Palmerston North's Central Norman School, Over 500 children and about 150 parents gathered in the Parish Hall before the end of the term to bid Mr and Mrs Cowan farewell. In paying tribute to Mr Cowan's term at Gisborne Central, the chairman of the School Committee, Mr M. Upton, said that during this period over £4000 worth of equipment had been purchased by the efforts of the committee, the children, and the parents in association with the school staff headed by Mr Cowan, who had given outstanding service to the school.
