There was much excitement, but little damage, when fire broke out in the verandah of the Regent Theatre during a Saturday evening performance. Firemen had to dash away from a social evening in the brigade hall, in honour of the retirement of deputy chief officer Mr A. E. Drummond, to attend to the fire, while patrons in the theatre were not a little concerned when they could smell smoke. But the fire was soon extinguished, allowing both the social and the film to continue.

Mr E. File, a South African War veteran, 81 years of age, is the oldest member of the Kahutia Indoor Bowling Club, and seldom misses a club night. At a recent club evening, Ernie found that members had made a cake to celebrate his birthday. Pictures show him cutting the cake, and in action on the mat.
