Nearest thing to a flood in the Waipaoa River this winter was a "fresh" last month which provided this picture from the Matawhero bridge. Water at left is flowing in old channel, at right in the "cut". Next move by Catchment Board will be to build a bank or dam, indicated by dotted lines, to divert total flow into the cut.

Next big change in Gisborne's skyline will probably be construction of new T. & G. insurance building on corner of Gladstone Road and Grey Street, on the site of Wildish's Auction Mart (right). Old building is now vacant, and test bores have been made for new five-storey structure. Picture at left, of new T. & G. building in Dunedin, indicates likely appearance of Gisborne building, except that Dunedin has six floors above ground instead of five.
Soon to be replaced with handsome new T. & G. Building.....
