As part of the Health Department's campaign to stamp out tuberculosis in New Zealand, the mobile X-ray unit is now operating in Gisborne

For the present, as the necessary vehicle is not yet available, the unit is operating in the old City Council Chambers in Read's Quay.

The staffs of firms have been the main customers up to date, but there have also been special sessions for wives and mothers, and open periods for the general public. The service is so rapid that anyone calling at the office can be X-rayed in a few minutes, regardless of whether an appointment has been made or not.

The value of the service has been emphasised by the occasional discovery of the tell-tale TB marks on the film. In many cases this evidence has enabled patients to make complete recoveries in a short time from what could otherwise have been a serious onslaught of the disease.
