Bananas by the Bunch
There's always something new. Last month, for instance, bananas came to Gisborne in the bunch. They were all the way from Ecuador, on the west coast of South America.
It was the first time that local people had seen how bananas come from the plantation, and what it is makes that man make such odd noises in that song. The size and weight of the bunches indicates that loading bananas must be much the same as loading, say, carcases of mutton, only loading mutton is not quite so piercing.
