Cup-Tie Soccer

Largest attendance of the public for many a season turned out in perfect weather for the soccer game of the year at Childers Road Reserve, between Eastern Union (Gisborne) and Seatoun (Wellington) for the honour of contesting the final of the Chatham Cup for 1957.

With the star players Aird and Armstrong in their team, Eastern Union looked to have bright chances, but the young Seatoun team played a clever and well-controlled game, and emerged the winners by 2 goals to 1.

Later, Seatoun went on to beat Technical (Christchurch), and thus won the cup.
